3. The Rise of Emotional Reasoning

Increasingly, judgments about truth are shaped by how things feel rather than how they can be demonstrated.

Emotion as Primary Filter

Emotion has always played a role in human reasoning. But it is now moving into a dominant position. It does not merely influence judgment—it often determines it.

Reason follows, justifying what has already been decided.

From Reason to Postulate

When reasoning is subordinated in this way, it changes function. It no longer tests hypotheses; it defends postulates.

Positions are adopted first, often unconsciously, and then rationalized after the fact. Argument becomes a tool of reinforcement, not discovery.

The Neurotic Loop

This structure is closely tied to repression. What is pushed out of awareness does not disappear—it returns as tension, anxiety, unease.

Emotional intensity then feeds back into belief. The stronger the feeling, the more certain the conviction. A closed loop forms between repression, emotion, and justification.

Closing

Reason remains present, but no longer sovereign. It has become an instrument—serving conclusions it did not generate.
